*This is a review of the new Pixar movie, "Up"
Three "thumbs" up (remember, I don't wear pants. Make of that what you will).
However, it scared the living bejeezus out of Georgia. There were parts where she was crying and telling us she wanted to go home. It's PG because of 'peril' and let me tell you, there's a metric boat load of peril. There's a horrible storm, lots of angry dogs chasing people, plenty of 'hidden things in the jungle' that pop out at you, and half the movie, the characters are suspended in the air by nothing more than a garden hose. And death. There were several instances of death which we had to explain to her.
So, maybe not the best movie for younger audiences. But still, a damned fine movie and Pixar once again focused on the story line over flashy graphics. The 3D was incidental to the movie – not a single instance of "Hey! Look! It's a 3D movie so we're going to poke things out of the screen to remind you it's in 3D". In fact, I think they used the depth more to give viewers the sense of height when floating.
Highly recommended, just not for smaller kids.
There is a fairly long, very sad portion near the beginning of the movie, though. I think it's necessary, but I can see how it might affect kids.
