At work, we have a little cafeteria that you can get breakfast and lunch at. Semi-ok food, overpriced, but occasionally edible.

The company that runs the place has been on this "Green" kick – you know, printing out dozens of fliers and posters claiming they're going green all while trucking in the food from various locations, etc.

Their latest scam, however, is indicative of the whole green movement. They're no longer selling Styrofoam cups for drinks. You have to purchase one of their drinking mugs for $4.00 instead. Sure, refills are only 25¢, but they won't let you bring your OWN mug, you have to use one of theirs. Oh, and they still sell plenty of overpriced, plastic bottled drinks (which you can get from the vending machine for 40¢ less).

That's not being green, that's being greedy. A true green gesture would be a discount for using a reusable container, regardless of where you get it from. No, this is like all the other people who try to guilt you into 'saving the Earth' by forcing you to use their products instead. GE is one of the biggest lobbyists for the green movement. They also happen to make the stuff you'd need to use (windmills, etc) to be green. Go figure.

So, I won't be buying any drinks from them at all. Period. It may actually be cheaper in the long run, but it's flat out extortion, even if it's over something as simple as a friggin' cup.
