Traction Control doesn't like Novocain.
Deep Scaling - a dental cleaning procedure that uses ultrasound to remove tarter below the gum line is frequently offered with multiple visits (one per quadrant) and various pain killers being administered in the process. Imagine my surprise when my ‘Deep Scaler’ asked if I wanted the ‘pain killer’ shots. “Nope”, said I, “Do all four quadrants today and skip the pain killer stuff.”

Same here. I'm not a masochist, but I find the pain from drilling to be less irksome than the 8 hours of numbness (followed by a rather irritating hour or so if itching). My only problem is the dentist constantly asking if I'm ok. In order to deal with the pain, I find a 'happy place' in my mind that I just kind of zone out. Each time Dr. Toothbuster says "You doin' ok there Robert?", I have to snap out of it in order to gurgle my answer.
Why is it so hard to explain to the dentist that if indeed the pain gets too much for me to bear, he will be the very first person to know?
