Pervert feedback loop
My Recent Searches gadget on the side bar was having a negative affect, I think. When perverts would do some sort of search that, due to my nature of using 'loaded terms', would land on a totally unrelated post, my system would link that post with those search terms. The page would be crawled, and I think Google was starting to rank those results higher than necessary. It's like I was Google-bombing myself. I noticed today that there were some pretty illegal searches going on for underage...

More failures of Gun Free Zone Force Fields
8th grader brings handgun to school Kim Cochran, a Foresthill resident whose daughter attends the elementary school in town, said she was surprised to hear of a gun on campus. “We moved from Antioch where you have kids who come to school with a gun and you have to watch out for that,” Cochran said. “We moved the kids here to be away from that. We’ve lived her a long time and when I heard about this I thought, ‘wow, not in my town. Things like that don’t happen.’” Apparently, the...

This is when Audrey Stockwell hit Harris over the top of the head with a black telephone, the report said, causing a bruise and a large swollen bump on her head. With the OMG LOADED WEAPONS IN PARKS DRUNK REDNECKS SHOOTING IT OUT OVER THE LAST SCHLITZ!!!!! craze going on in all the newspapers over the continent, there are two things that I've noticed. One, the complete inability of the authors to discern the difference between peaceful, law abiding citizens and murderers (that's par for the course), and apparently, regardless of where the paper is located, the commenters simply ripping them to shreds. Remind me again what the hell the term 'liberal' is supposed to mean? Frustrated liberals are asking why a Democratic-controlled Congress and White House can't manage to close the Guantanamo prison or keep new gun-rights laws from passing. Preventing rights apparently is the new liberal way.

I recommend wearing soft gloves
Before reading this article. You'll thank me when you slap your forehead in exasperation. Guy is at his kid's school. There is an altercation and a knife is pulled (apparently the No Gun forcefield doesn't work on knives). Guy takes his handgun out of the glove compartment and puts it on his seat. Situation diffused, but guy gets convicted of handling a gun on school property. Judge informs him that he should have pointed it at the knife wielder instead. That way, it was self defense. Logic....

In Gun-Free Chicago, at a memorial for a gangster thug choir boy who was shot, several people were… shot. The unpossibilities are endless here. It's illegal to shoot people without cause. It's illegal to have a gun in Chicago. Gangsters are prohibited from possessing firearms. Maybe if we made it harder for you and me to get guns, this wouldn't happen!

Ruger's new product? A gas piston AR. A little underwhelmed, especially given we saw the bolt a few days ago and it was clear it wasn't a DI system. Look for the recall in 3…2…1… Maybe it's decent, I don't know. All I do know is that after firing the Para TTR, I wanted it with a passion. If I'm going to spend 2k on an AR, it would be that. The wife absolutely HAS to hit the Strawberry Festival every year simply because this one place does cinnamon rolls like none you've ever tasted. Huge, sticky, cinnamon-y, and delicious. So, it is my quest to make cinnamon rolls at least as good as those guys. We'll see how this one goes. The recipe is...

A Far Side like comic strip
A while back, somebody posted a link to a comic strip that was very similar to the Far Side (albeit multi-paneled). I remember reading a few and thinking they were great, but I can't find that bookmark. Nor can I remember the blog I read it on. Anyone got any clue what I'm talking about? UPDATE! WOOHOO!!! Instant success. The comic is called Tundra Good stuff!

How capitalism works
Somewhere, there's a need. In this case, many rifle builders have spoken about a distinct lack of bolt carrier groups available to construct their wares. So, a local dealer decides to go into the business of making quality BCGs. Good luck Anvil Manufacturing! (Disclaimer – I've done work for Anvil Arms and know the owner and company pretty good)

Blogging fail
Can't seem to do it lately. College kid quite possibly saves 10 others from rape and death, and I have nothing to really go on about. Anti-gun writers and bloggers go on and on about how gun owners are nothing but murderers waiting for the chance to kill someone, and I can't even be bothered to remind them that using the same logic, they are child molesters that are barely restrained from sexually abusing children. There was even some Reasoned Discourse that broke out due to links I sent,...

Birds of a feather
Traction Control doesn't like Novocain. Deep Scaling - a dental cleaning procedure that uses ultrasound to remove tarter below the gum line is frequently offered with multiple visits (one per quadrant) and various pain killers being administered in the process. Imagine my surprise when my ‘Deep Scaler’ asked if I wanted the ‘pain killer’ shots. “Nope”, said I, “Do all four quadrants today and skip the pain killer stuff.” Same here. I'm not a masochist, but I find the pain from...

We know you are good at shooting off your mouth
But does that equate to MAD SKILLZ behind the pistol? Caleb and I have been tossing around an idea for a Gunblogger Invitational Shootoff. Right now, the only thing that's nailed down is the idea that it would be cool to get the gun bloggers together for an actual shooting match. Outside of that, we're not sure of a time, place, or anything. Hell, the title is up for change. Location wise, Caleb is pushing for Indiana. There are several reasons. One, that means no travel for him. Two, he can...

A little of this, a little of that
And eventually, you can create songs using nothing but YouTube clips. That's some creative stuff right there.

The resemblance is uncanny
Got a guy at work who claimed I look like the singer from some band called Static X. I'll be damned. There is a rather large similarity. Minus the crazy hair and all

A note on that little email field there
Thanks for leaving a comment. If you'd like me to be able to respond directly back to you, leave a real email in the field marked 'email'. The only place that data goes is in the email notification I receive letting me know you commented. If you don't want me to be able to respond, don't fill anything out at all. Putting crap in the middle of the address does nothing to stop spam bots since they don't see 'em anyway. Just an FYI

The most lethal firearm I own
Surprisingly, it's my new Kel-Tec P3AT. I got a chance to shoot it this weekend and all I can say is that if you force me to have to shoot you with this thing, it will piss me off so badly that I will beat you to death with my shoe. Holy crap on a cracker, Batman. I literally had to put my left thumb in the trigger guard to try to keep it from leaping out of my hands. I'm not sure a follow up shot is going to be feasible unless I aim for your toes first, then maybe, the second shot will part...

Operation "Don't come in last place" was a success!
Second to last! That's an improvement from last time. Granted, we only had 19 shooters, not the 30+ that normally seem to be there, so I was probably going up against the cream of the crop. However, it was an… interesting experience to say the least.] First stage I simply smoke checked. In fact, I came in 5th for that stage alone. Something felt right when I shot. I didn't push my shots, took what felt like my time but was rather quick, nailed the steel with single shots, and...

Brigid finds a piece of art for a song. Man, I'd love to have a side by side for sporting clays as nice as that one. And in the bargain bin? Why can't I ever luck out like that?

Reach out and touch someone
So, Boomershoot appeared to be a big success this year. Looks like everyone had fun and there were plenty of 'splosions to entertain those of us who like things like that. I really would love to make it to one some year, however there are some pretty big hurdles I'd have to overcome. Outside of travel and lodging, my biggest thing is that Boomershoot appears to cater to the long range shooter, something I am most definitely not. I appreciate the dedication and skill it takes to bolt a firearm...

You'd think I'd learn
Wrapping convoluted Insert commands into a transaction so you can roll back just in case you fat finger the values to insert = good. Not doing that and realizing that the '7' you put in rather than the required '58' over 85 rows and having to come up with an even more convoluted DELETE statement since you can't roll back the changes? Bad.
