I mentioned that I was back in the running for a mouse gun since a store down the road from where I worked was going to have 2 KelTec P3ATs in stock tomorrow. Being the anal-retentive guy I am, I called today to not only validate that they were still getting them in but to also see if I could put a hold on one (via prepayments of promises of firstborns).
Turns out, the owner was opening the boxes as we spoke. I informed her I'd be there in 20 minutes. By the time I got there, one was already gone.
I got the other one
Ugly as sin, isn't it?
Yes, it's 'battleship blue/grey'. Yes, just like every other KelTec, brand new it still looks used. But it's going to get the job done when I need it to. If looks were important, I'd be buying an overpriced Seecamp or Walther PPK/S.
They also had the PF9 so I got to try it side by side. The thought of at least 9mm was comforting, so I asked to see them both. The lady didn't mind me pocketing them, so I went for both front and rear pockets. In the back, the PF9 may have worked, but the extra weight was noticeable. In the front, it looked like I had a huge boner running halfway down my leg which, if anyone knows me saw it, would be a dead giveaway that I was packing.
The P3AT just disappeared. And the weight wasn't noticeable at all. It's no heavier unloaded than my iPhone.
They had some SD ammo. Hornady Critical Defense which gets decent enough reviews although the Hydrashocks seem to be the preferred round. I took what I could get for the interim.
Gotta get it to the range a bit before I start carrying it. I want to work out any kinks there might be, plus there's tons of information out there for smoothing things out for better reliability. Of course, until I can find some practice ammo, that's just not going to be feasible for a while.
So, now my arsenal of needs is complete. I have a shotgun, an AR, a high power bolt action rifle, a .22 pistol, a .22 rifle, a large frame center fire pistol and now a small frame center fire pistol (I may or may not have several in each of those categories, by the way). I am free to finally start looking at buying only things I want.
