So, there's a local gun store that's really an office with a shelf with a few guns on it. I guess when you get used to the department store feel of massive shops like Shoot Straight, these places seem 'quaint'. But, I'd not been to this particular store since they moved a while back and being that I'm in the shopping spirit, went to see what they had.
First off, unless you call and get GPS coordinates, good luck finding the place. It's in a strip mall, but in the back inside beside insurance offices and whatnot. No signs, no "Go down hall, last door on left", or anything to show where to go. After giving them a call and finding out where it was, I headed on over.
Looking at the shelf of guns, lo and behold what do my eyes see? Is it real? Can it really be a fully functioning Ruger LCP????
YES!!!!! THIS PLACE HAS A RUGER LCP!!!!
Which the guy wouldn't sell. I asked if it worked – it did. I asked if someone already had claim to it – nobody did. I asked why he wasn't selling it - it was his "display model".
Now, to his credit he was selling it at $298, which is basically the MSRP and cheaper than anywhere else. He said he had a waiting list of about 60 other people, but no dates when he was getting any in at all and wasn't accepting any more names.
Yet he had one sitting on a shelf.
I don't get it. If he wasn't holding it for anyone, it wasn't doing him any sort of good just sitting there collecting dust. I would have gladly paid the $300 in an instant and he would have had the cash from the sale. Hell, I'd have paid him $325 for it without blinking. But no, it wasn't for sale.
It's his business and I can only wonder why someone wouldn't want to sell their stock first before making people wait, but that might explain why his business is an office in the back of a strip mall where you have to call to get directions.
Disappointing. And odd.
