Tam and Uncle both link to Les regarding a firearm that was demolished via a poorly reloaded round. I see this a lot, someone finds a gun that went boom because someone double charged the case or had a squib followed by a normal round and uses that as a good enough reason to not reload.
In Les' case, he realizes he wouldn't get enough time alone without his kids bothering him to do it safely, and I cannot argue against that. But I do want to make the point that reloading does not automatically blow up your gun.
I've reloaded several thousand rounds and the worst I've had is a squib. This isn't to say I'm perfect (hint – I am), but if you know me, you should realize "Pays close attention to detail" is generally not a phrase people would use to describe me. That doesn't mean I'm surfing the web while reloading, but it does go to show that even people as scatterbrained as I am can safely reload ammunition.
Granted, I've seen plenty of forum warriors trying to work up the "ULTIMATE SUPER +P2; LOADS" which I find to be silly as it wastes powder and shortens the life of both your cases and your firearm, but I can see where that attitude could cause all sorts of kablooies.
To reload, you must remain fairly vigilant, but it's not as hard as some people make it sound. If I can do it, so could a retarded chimpanzee with cataracts.
