If you had to choose between them for a self-defense carry handgun, would it be a .45 ACP, or a .357 revolver of some sort?

Ah, but now we are wiser, so it's easy to avoid a fight:

Use whichever is most comfortable.

Personally, I like to stay away from the .357 for safety reasons. It is a widely-known fact (thanks, PDB) that it is so powerful, any target struck will immediately burst into a shower of sparks. And that's a fire hazard.

I'm not going to feel safe on the streets until I can have a M163 PIVADS to call my own. Anything less is just a compromise.

I would definitely use my AR-15 in .357 magnum because it is teh awesome. Although, I've got to admit, the AK-47 chambered in the manstopping .45 ACP would be great. You know those things still run even when in a ball-pit at a Burger King playground.

I'm happy with both .45ACP (1911 for me) or a nice wheelie in .357mag. I can carry either one, and do. .45ACP and .357mag are both excellent.

But regarding the basic/c/c++ issue, c++ sucks as bad as basic. Only difference is the nature of the suckage. c code above in comment is A-OK.

Is it common to get into two flamefests with one post?
