Since I'm well endowed, it behooves me to purchase a small firearm since there's simply nothing to compensate for (they're talking about feet size, right?).
The only consolation to missing the Bash is I can use the money to purchase a gun, and the only need for my collection is a mouse gun. Here in the sunshine state, shorts are practically mandatory for 3/4ths of the year and lugging around a Glock, even a sub compact 29, can be difficult at times. So, a mouse gun would fit the role nicely.
My criteria are simple. .380 or larger caliber, can fit in a front or rear pocket, DAO, and goes bang each and every time I pull the trigger.
The reviews of the main contenders – Ruger LCP, Kel-Tec P3AT, and the Kahr whatchamajigger, all have plusses and minuses. The clear winner is the Ruger LCP which is impossible to find and when you do, it's almost double the MSRP (locally I've found them from $450 to $500 or a 6 month wait for $279). Reviews are generally good.
The Kel-Tec gets mixed reviews with one dealer telling me he'd not sell it to me if he had a box of 'em in the back collecting dust. He claims that 'repairs' from Kel-Tec are actually a new pistol with your serial number transferred to it while the old one is melted down. Don't know how much stock to put in that, but I do hear a LOT of gripes with the Kel-Tec. For those who it works fine for, it works really good. So, spotty quality but cheap and available.
The Kahrs get good reviews too, but tend to be pricier.
I might not be able to get one at all because I have a hard enough time justifying $500 for a full size pistol much less $350 for something the size of a credit card that spits a ridiculously underpowered round out very uncomfortably. This isn't a pistol that is going to see a lot of use, I just want it in case the attire requires it (that includes 'No Pants Tuesdays').
I consider the .380 a last ditch effort / worst case scenario for those times when I can't carry the 10 or if I know I'm going to be in an environment where printing would be an issue and don't wish to go unarmed (remember, the bad guys generally only see "GUN" and don't realize the caliber).
So, your opinion on a pocket pistol? Let the flamewar begin!
