Guns. Lots of Guns.

Seriously. A gun should cost around $300, max. Why, oh why, are all the pretty 1911's $1k or more?

Besides, I either can get a new gun or go to the Second Amendment Bash but not both. Curse you Law of Economics!

You could always try playing the lottery. Then you'll have a shot at winning enough to get lots of new guns and attend the Bash. Or, you might just waste another dollar every week. It's a glass half-full/half-empty perspective.

RIA makes some good 1911's that aren't bank busting. They're simple but effective.

Invest in the 1911 first. There'll be another Bash next year. If the dumbf***crats are looking to enact the AWB again, at least you'll have your 1911 before they do.

Are you serious?

The new AWB is going to be expanded to include semi-automatic pistols as well (amongst a whole list of other things).

You need to do some homework there.

You could do both. Get a simple 1911, with good sights, and slowly make customizations as the money rolls in.

OrangeNeck- I was speaking specifically to handguns. Sorry for any confusion. The following is directly from Alan Korwin (author of the Gun Laws series of books) on 3-12-09, and it's taken from the old H.R. 1022. I apologize, because I did overlook threaded barrels. Other items, like forward grips on a pistol, are already ATF violations. Here you go:

"A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a
detachable magazine, and has:
(i) a second pistol grip,
(ii) a threaded barrel,
(iii) a barrel shroud or
(iv) can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip, and
(v) a semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10
rounds. "

Nothing at all about ALL semi-auto pistols. And the whole list of other things are semi-auto shotguns and rifles along with the same cosmetic features as before.

Enough homework done for you? ;-) All in fun, man. Please don't think I'm treating an AWB with a cavalier attitude- I'm stockpiling parts, stripped lowers, mags and ammo just like anybody.

Well, I need several more 1911's for competition, but at least I have the Para now for starters. Still, it's 'spensive as all get out for something nice these days and it's a shame it has to be that way.

Sorry I got snippy back there. It's just that with the threat of a new AWB looming on the horizon, I've become very defensive about my (and our) right to keep and bear arms.

I wish I could go out and buy another complet AR-15, but I don't have a job right now and I don't want to deplete my savings. I already have a Rock River Arms AR-15A2 in my gun cabinet. I bought that right after the first AWB expired in 2004 and I only paid $860 for it.

This new presidency and the democratic congress has got me on edge. I'm glad you're not cavalier about this issue. We need to stand together.

I'm looking at two weddings this year. One is my daughter Xenia's and the other is my nephew Jason who lost his arm and sight of his right eye while in Iraq.

Since I'm paying for Xenia's wedding that is financially very painful. Barb and will be attending Jason's wedding which is on a cruise ship taking off out of Florida someplace which is an expensive trip from Idaho.

Hence I probably won't be attending the 2A Blog Bash, the Gun Blogger Rendezvous, or buying any new guns this year.
