I'm brain dead. Trying to get my head around the crap sandwich I have to work with now has been like drinking from a firehose. 99% of what has been said has simply gone someplace other than where it should have.

One of my strengths as a programmer is my uncanny ability to simply pick up new or different technologies and get my head around them fast. I can't do it with what I'm working on now. Things are so bad that the very people who wrote the system have been here for two weeks and still cannot get any of the applications up and running on our systems from start to finish. Oh, sure, we can get the UI to show and error which shows the UI is working, but the ESB is down. Then, the ESB is up, but the proxy services aren't configured right. Oh, you didn't have that installed? No wonder it didn't work. Shit, looks like some code wasn't checked in, let's spend 2 hours tracking it down. Oh, and you'll need to install an entire Portal suite which you won't use since you need a class or two from them.

And my job is no longer to write applications, but to fix broken ones. The resistance to being a 'support tech' makes the learning even harder. Honestly, if it wasn't for my family, I'd walk out, shitty economy or no. There's more to life than having a lot of money. For years I've enjoyed my job, and could come home happy and live a nice life. Now, it's been multiple 12 hour days with hardly any breaks in between and all I can do is bitch and moan when I get home. I barely get to see my kids.

And to add insult to injury, it saps my ability to write coherently. There's so much to say right now, so much going on in the gunblog community from Jim Scoutten's argument against Boomershoot on TV to the recent shootings and I just can't seem to form sentences that don't contain 87.22% profanity.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the last days that we have with the developers who wrote this code, then the hard part comes when nothing works and we still have no idea how the damned apps function. Probably a lot more 12 hour work days in the near future.

Stupid job.

Sorry for the whine fest. Well, not really. It's my blog and I'll whine if I want to.
