SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Montgomery County police say 16 people were arrested after a fight broke out during a concert held to promote nonviolence and to remember a Silver Spring teen killed last year.

Rustmeister is right. A "non-violence" or "peace" program in that area is meant as an anti-gang thing, not a protest against violence in general.

And having been a former resident of Silver Spring, I have zero trouble believing it. You could literally see the line between ok neighborhoods and "run for your life" neighborhoods. Often, the two simply overlapped.

I worked at a very nice corporate headquarters in downtown Silver Spring and there were people robbed in broad daylight two blocks away. Not the safest place in the world. Case in point, from the article the concert was on Ellsworth street. Right in the middle of nice shops and restaurants built across the street of said corporate headquarters.

All the shiny facades can't change the reality that the place is a craphole. I'm glad I got out of there.
