Guns. Lots of Guns.

So, the Mrs. and I have been discussing the Second Amendment Blog Bash. Money's tight, time is tight, yadda yadda yadda. Going to be a tight fit if I get to go.

This would probably be a bad time to start thinking about my next gun purchase. Yeah, there's going to be one this year if I can wrangle up a little business on the side. Because twice this weekend caught me without a firearm.

I need a pocket pistol. Sometimes the Glock is just too much to carry, especially if I'm going to be running around with my daughters. Something that can fit in a pocket and not leave me worrying if I'm going to flash my pistol is really what I need.

Part of me wants to go with a snubbie revolver but I fear that it would still be a little too bulky. The .380 offerings are much smaller and concealable, but again… they're .380s.

I guess I could buy a Bond Arms 10mm derringer, but I like the bones in my wrist to fit together snugly.

I'm betting this year doesn't see more than one new firearm, and even that one is going to be an uphill battle with the CFO.

Try and find a good condition AMT Backup, mines in 45 and I love it, but its also offered in 9mmEuroPellet if you like your wrists :D.

Try a Ruger LCP, with Crimson Trace sights, in a High Noon Pocket Grabber holster, and firing Hornady Critical Defense ammo. Works for me.

Kel-Teck P-11, or a Taurus .357(8 shot, can't recall the model number). Both can be had new for around $250, last I checked. Grab a Smart Carry for $50 and you are golden.

I routinely pocket-carry my S&W 360PD - 5 rounds of .357 Magnum goodness.

You need a pair of pants with deep, loose pockets to carry without printing - I prefer cargo pants for this - but it can be done.

And presenting the pistol is a cinch...

I carry a Kahr PM9 (little brother to the PM45 mentioned above). Don't flinch at the MSRP. When I got my PM9 the MSRP was something linke $750. I got it at a gun show for $510.

With a simple pocket holster ($20 at the show), it disappears in the pocket of Levi's relaxed fit or comfort fit jeans, cargo pants, or any pants made with heavy material and a loose cut. It will print a square-ish outline in thinner pants, but with a good holster no one will know what it is. Even my wife can't tell when I put it and the spare mag in a belly band under a dress shirt for church.

The Kahr PM9 is small enough to pocket carry, and is slightly less outrageously priced. My wife picked one up for about $650 and I like it so much that I may have to pick one up for exactly the use you mentioned. It shoots WAY easier than a gun that size should shoot.

I also had a P3AT and sold it to a friend when I got a job that allowed me to dress around a Glock. I liked the P3AT, and wouldn't hesitate to put another one in my pocket.

Kel-Tec PF-9 in hard chrome. Great if all you want is a pocket pistol, and being 9mm, you get some more bang for your buck *ahem*.

Pocket pistol leaves things wide open. How much can you sneak by the wife? :) Any caliber requirements?

I'm waiting for NY to release their clutches on my Thunder380; that'll likely be my daily carry piece most of the time. I'm strongly considering the NAA MiniMag with the folding grip for a "rest of the time" gun. .22WMR is really nothing to sneeze at.

I'm seconding Jay G. The guns that are thinner than a J-Frame are 32s, 25s and 22s. My 442 (.38) went for $350 bills new. You can get the 642/442 without the random action-seizing device internal safety now.

(Note to Smith and Wesson: Stop offering pink grips. You're making yourselves look like idiots, and a snubbie is not a beginner's gun.)

Have you carried an Airweight in a pocket holster? I was surprised at how well mine carries--it looks bigger outside the pocket than it feels inside.
