I've heard other gun bloggers claim that you can't buy back something that was never yours to begin with.
Since this kind of story seems to be commonplace, maybe they are trying to buy back their own weapons
FRUITLAND PARK - Lake County Sheriff investigators said they are looking for a man who stole a detective's gun from the trunk of his unmarked patrol car early Sunday morning. According to the sheriff's office, a woman and her husband awoke at about 4 a.m. to the sounds of a car alarm and ran outside to investigate. They reported seeing a man wearing a dark hooded overcoat and long baggie shorts standing behind Sheriff's detective Cpl. Michael Goss's unmarked patrol car. The man then ran off and the couple called Fruitland Park Police.
