So, today I had to drop by the post office to pick up some certified mail that I had missed yesterday. Going to the post office generally gets my blood pressure up. You see, if I were to be pissy about my rights and fail to disarm before stepping across the threshold, I turn into a felon.

No crime. No harm against another. No added danger to anyone. Still, Post Offices are places where you are not allowed to protect yourself using the most efficient tools and if you carry your gun in there, you are now a Grade A Felon looking at a few years paid vacation in FPMITA prison.

Now, I'm still not thrilled that I have to ask for permission to carry a firearm, but that's a discussion for another day. However, for now, consider that the state 'allows' me to carry practically anywhere. Malls, churches, kids' soccer games, massage parlors, day care centers, old folks homes, hospitals (including the neo-natal ward), theme parks, playgrounds, and even parks. Not only am I allowed to carry in places like that but so are hundreds of thousands of other Floridians and guess what? There's not a problem.

So what make the infinitely small plane that separates the inside of a post office from the rest of the world so different? Does the smell of stamp adhesive cause a breakdown in mental processing when combined with the light scent of gun oil and cause the wearer to go berserk?

Same with schools. I am trusted to be around children at parks, playgrounds, soccer games, etc., why on God's green earth would I not be trustworthy simply because I'm walking my daughter to school?

I'm glad to see the National Park restrictions lifted. I have a feeling our next "illustrious leader" will be pressured into smacking it down, but it is at least a chink in the gun banners' argument that we can continue to attack. If I'm perfectly fine carrying a weapon in place X, place Y is no different at all.
