I wonder if maybe, just maybe felons don't normally buy their guns from a retail store?

I remember so well when the media got a hold of the Trick or Treater shot on Halloween. They sort of neglected to mention he was shot by an ex con with an illegal weapon and hit while attempting a candy stop at a former crack house.

Doesn't make it less tragic, but it'd be nice if just once, some publication would report the truth on gun statistics.

I'm not that concerned with the number of convictions compared to the total number of checks. What bothers me is the abysmally low number of convictions, or even investigations when compared to the total number of denials. Every deny should result in an investigation. If the denials are legit, most should result in an arrest. If the investigation shows the deny was not legit, it should cause whatever triggered the deny to be fixed.

If a typical background check takes 15 minutes (some come back in a few minutes, but it can takes several days)...while the buyer and seller sit around and wait:

That is 4,104,950 hours of law abiding citizens’ time wasted.

That’s 1,973.5 man-years of wasted time.

Is there a way to sue or get standing and eliminate the entire system? No judge in America would allow a background check as a condition of not stationing a soldier in one's house, or before determining if someone is eligible to retain their right to remain silent or the trial by jury. An enumerated right cannot require a background check or permission of any kind.

So. How do we get standing?
