Hunters who think nothing of selling out other's rights simply because they don't feel that certain classes of weapons are good enough for their sport are about to get a wake up call.

Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan dismissed the notion hunting rifles and shotguns are not the type of weapons authorities need to be worried about, noting they can cause harm if poorly safeguarded or stolen by burglars.

"Taking these off the streets is as important as the taking the handguns off the streets,'' he said.

A firearm fires a projectile. Be it from a bolt action, semi auto, revolver, or lever, that's what guns do. Don't think that because your hunting rifle is pretty and only holds one shot that the gun banners aren't going to go after them.

Instead, the banners will try a divide and conquer technique. They'll get you to agree that rights aren't important by making you say things like "Nobody needs more than 5 rounds" or "You cannot hunt with a rifle that looks like X". Then, when you feel all smug about protecting your sport, we won't be around to help you out when they feel taking your shotguns and rifles are in the best interest of public safety.

Don't say you weren't warned.
