Greg points out some interesting statistics for CCW here in Florida

Additional stats from 10/1/1987 (when shall issue licensing was passed) to 10/31/2008 (the last full month of data available):

  • 1,408,907 licenses have been issued.
  • 533,181 of those are current and active.
  • 166 have been revoked due to a gun-related crime. ...
  • In further conversations, he discovered that 3,716 permits were revoked due to crime. So let's use the bigger number for grits and shins.

"AHA!" say the anti-gun people. "See! Over three thousand so called 'law abiding citizens' are criminals!!!1!eleven!!"

    Not so fast. A little math is in order. 3,716 / 1,408,907 * 100 = 0.02691065662002152852529601722282. That's .027% folks.

Heck, if you want to compare just the active permits (and those don't include special permits such as security guards, judges and the like) with ALL the revocations, you're still talking only .7%!

Add in that only 166 of those were gun related crimes, and it becomes more and more apparent that Helmke, Rosenthal, and the rest of the gun banners are talking out their collective corn hole when they talk of the Wild Wild West shootouts.
