An open letter to my fellow political travelers

Obama is president elect. Congratulations to him on that. While I'm sure there was plenty of voter fraud, I don't think it was enough to swing the election. Obama's nebulous message of hope and change resonated in the American psyche and they voiced their desires at the polls.

Obama will be the next President of the United States. Let us not fall into the nutroots' mode of declaring him "Not my president" or "Don't Blame Me I Voted McCain". Seriously, McCain wouldn't have been much of an improvement.

I disagree with Obama's positions on practically everything. Part of me despairs that America is going to go down hill, but then again part of me remembers that America is more than the people who pretend to rule us. I'm terrified that so many people are acquiescent to the socialistic views Obama promotes because it is not the President that defines us, but the people.

My job now is not to destroy Obama. He was elected fair and square (enough) and it is his right to take the office. My job now is harder than I'd have ever imagined. It is to talk to my fellow Americans and try to instill into them a sense of personal responsibility, of freedom and liberty, and get them to realize that granting the government power to make their decisions for them is not in their best long term interests.

We're going to see another AWB. We'll have to fight it tooth and nail and the chances of us fending it off are grim. But we can't give up. Because if we give up, then that is how America is lost.

Please join me in congratulating Obama and Biden, respecting the office in which they will hold, and not giving up on America.

I believe one of the significant problems we have in this country is that we conservatives are TOO NICE.

We play buy rules, the liberals do not. The liberal media plays hardball partisan politics and criticizes any thing done by conservatives as attack ads.

A round circular "W" sticker is a sign of right wing extremism. But the not my president, don't blame me stickers, etc. Are exalted and glorified.

Perhaps we need to re-evaluate our passiveness. And frankly, stand up, shout, and say...if all else fails. We'll draw a line in the sand and if this nation must shatter - so be it. Better it shatters than we be drag into a freedomless pit?

As a kid who grew up on the Left, I can assure you that conservatives ARE nice, and play fair, AND don't even have fangs and blood dripping off your chins!! As a Lefty it was with a kind of unbelievable astonishment that I learned that, and counter to all that I had been taught and more - Evangelicals don't eat babies and peer with gimlet eyes into bedroom windows ready to burn sinners at the stake - amazing! That you were NOT even nastier than we were, and didn't cheat at Golf either!

Having done a little ballot stuffing (and winning) in my time it's easy for me to see how they can get away with it - especially if you have the untraceable MONEY and very large scale Political machinery, and even a distraction group like ACORN in place and widely distributed - because nice people don't want to acknowledge that it can or did happen, not to them. CA was not in play at all - we've been captured behind the ideological concertina wire as are several other states, that just makes things easier.

The people with all the insanity stickered to their cars; the "Endless War" the "Not My President" the "Impeach Bush" the "Fuck Bush" the "McSame" - all that which surrounds me - they will not remove those badges of honor, those stickers will remain there triumphant because this is their glory...

Of course, my recent guesses have all been wrong, as it turns out. So maybe he won't.

I'm amped! This signals the end of racism! No more Million Man Marches or Jackson shakedowns or White guilt. That's OVER! We elected a Black President! I think White people can even use the N-word now like they are black rappers or Jesse Jackson. Martin King asked how long his people would suffer? Not past Nov 4, 2008!

Without a 60 Dem Senate - and that's apparently not going to happen - I'm not so sure it will be easy, or fast.

But in 2010, 19 Republican (including McCain) versus 14 Dem seats are up, which would normally translate into the Dems picking up a net 2 or 3 - or more - giving them their 60+ Senate. And/or if, in the mean time, Obama gets to replace one of the 5 pro-Heller justices (Scalia, age 72?) to get a SCOTUS to back-up whatever anti-gun laws go through, that's when serious shit will start to happen, in my humble opinion.

I may respect what the office represents but that doesn't confer respect on the man who holds it. He will have to earn that respect and from where I stand, he is currently sitting negative. It will take a lot from Obama to demonstrate to me that he is willing to compromise and listen to us. If not, then it only goes to prove he did what was convenient in moving to the center, charmed the citizenry for their vote and will discard their voices at first opportunity to try and enact his true agenda.

As to the AWB, I don't think they'll do it in the first 100 days. It may seem productive but there are enough sitting Congressmen who remember 1994. The firearms targeted by even a 94 type "ban" (HR.6257) are no longer part of a wacky niche subculture. They are now owned by a significant fraction of gun owners of all stripes. To go after them is to energize a base of voters much, much larger than the one that tossed the Dems out in '94. Obama and Biden may want it but Congress isn't that stupid I think.

If they do do it, I will enjoy watching "assault weapon" owners on DU try to justify their support of Obama in the face of losing their future property rights in items they own. And any gun owner who supported Obama in the belief they were safe will deserve it. The sad part is I have endure that mistake with them.

I want them to do it. I want them to do it quickly. I want Congress and Obama to show their true colors to the electorate so the populace will get to enjoy the fruits of their projecting their "hope for change" onto an empty suit full of ambition. Bring it. The sooner this man gets exposed for the lying, left-wing ideology driven, hating Marxist he is, the better for all of us long-term. Maybe America needs two years under the worst possible circumstances to turn us around and recognize the greatness that American values of individual liberty really are. It might force people to actually embrace them.

Because when that happens, the ideological left Dems who are out of touch will have nowhere to turn. They will answer to the voters in 2010. I know they will and I will stand among them then to cast my first vote hopefully as an American citizen to help make it happen.

All I hope for now is political rationality to break out and Congress deciding that a political loser like gun control needs be treated like the third rail and not touched. If they choose to think that lesson is a past one and they can try again, I want the pain to come quickly and loudly for all to see.

People sold out our future rights for cyclical economy issues that in 6 months or so will be a bad memory.

Sorry for sounding bitter. I'm looking to the future and if the future is going to result in what we've achieved in restoring 2A liberty incrementally being destroyed along with completing the effective gutting of our other rights, just get the pain over quick. The faster that happens, the faster we'll be able to work on recovery. If possible.

What scares me most is the prospect of Urkel being a U.N.-loving internationalist. If we see a lot of kowtowing to THAT cretinous horde of crooks and rape/ muggers, then it won't end with the confiscation of guns.(See Formerly-Great Britain as a fine example of where we're headed.)
Imagine, if you will, guns being outlawed, confiscated & cut up, and THEN pleasantries like al-Quaida sitting at the negotiations table with legitimate nations in the U.N., and U.S. talks with ahmajamma-bad-man, the Iranian Holocaust-denier. Imagine, and shudder.
Also, I agree with Joe Biden on one point, at least---terrorists WILL "test" Urkel within six months (an awfully generous time-scale, I think). I only pray it's not a WTC-scale operation, but I'll try to stay the hell away from big cities in the near future. The left roundly criticized John McCain for his temper (trying to paint him as a short-fuse whacko waiting to explode), but one thing's for sure---nobody wanted to "test" McCain, because you had a pretty good idea what would follow---a good, swift, ass-kicking into the next country over on the world map.
I'm afraid we're in for a looong four years, possibly much, much longer. God, I pray I'm wrong.

Darn it, I was going to make up bumper stickers of the latter - after having had to read "Don't Blame Me I Vote [insert name of Democrat here]" for the past eight years, I figured that it was time for that particular shoe to go on the other foot.

How about "Don't Blame Me I Voted Cthluhu"?

At any rate, I tend to fall into the same boat as Matt - I will continue to respect the Office of the President, just like I always have (even when the person occupying it was more interested in getting head than leading his country). However, I do not respect Obama himself - he will have to earn that, and, thus far, he has actually worked farther into the ground than out of it.

I think it would be great to have a "Don't blame me I voted McCain" sticker on your car already, when Obama hasn't even been sworn in.
