Today, I had to go to my daughter's school to pick up her report card and some fundraising items. Before I could get out of the car, I had to disarm.

Now, I walked into the buildings, got her fundraising stuff, met with the teacher, got back in my car and proceeded to pick up dinner.

During my few minutes in the school, even had I decided to not follow the law, I would have posed no danger to any of the children. Instead, I now had an unmonitored firearm in my car which could have been stolen - Not likely, but the chances of it being stolen in my car are immeasurably more than if it is on my person.

I am a law abiding citizen. Even when I don't agree with the law, I work to change it. Those who would harm our children think nothing of breaking a rule as simple as telling them they can't have a gun. How did me, a law abiding citizen, disarming protect the children in that school?

I'm not saying I'm there to protect the school from crazy people and I want to play hero, what I'm saying is that had I failed or refused to remove my pistol, I would have still picked up the gear and obtained my daughter's report card from her teacher and nobody would have been any worse for the wear. 'Cept I'd be a felon, put in jail for having the audacity to wish to be able to protect myself and my children.

Anyone?
