And a machine shop.
I had spoken with J.R. during our excursion to Blackwater about how I was trying to get a friend of mine to machine me a doodad I had designed to allow me to anneal my rifle cases using a drill. I don't anneal enough to invest in some fancy automated machine, so I used Google Sketch Up to design something I could fit into my drill and hit with a blowtorch, one at a time.
This was my design:
Fairly simple thing. I just needed something in aluminum, doesn't have to be high grade unobtanium or anything, just a metal that will act as a basic heat sink so that the neck of the case heats up but not the body.
J.R. said he could do it since he works in a machine shop. I sent him the plans and asked how much it would be. Lo and behold, today when I went to get the mail, look at what was in it (click to embiggen)
Not just one, but two adapters. They are perfect. The case slides in and out via gravity alone which means I won't have to handle 600° cases nor will I have to touch the aluminum adapter to put another case in, yet tight enough to act as a heat sink.
I can't thank J.R. enough for this wonderful gift. Hopefully he'll let me send him some money for his time and materials!
