doesn't surprise me, the LDS does not believe that guns should be restricted. I asked a co-worker about it one day and he said it was because of all of the massacres against Mormons in the last 150 or so years.

Here in Utah the LDS members are quite active in hunting and fishing.

Besides the glaringly obvious fact that JMB was Mormon, and that the church is the single largest sponsor of Boy Scout troops in the country, and their very strong belief in personal preparedness and self-reliance, the church leaders actually promote hunting as a good activity.

Yes, I'm sure part of their gun loving ways can be attributed to having been kicked from place to place until they were finally kicked out of the United States altogether and forced to go live in unclaimed wilderness because of their religious beliefs (go 1st Amendment!), but I would really put more emphasis on their principles of individual responsibility. Their stated doctrine is that men have the primary responsibility for the security of their family. Note that they do not say the police or the government.

I could quote you numerous verses from the Book of Mormon and church leaders where they state that people should be armed and prepared to defend themselves and their families. Not to mention some good references to how we need to be prepared to fight the government against unconstitutional or freedom-taking laws.

Not to mention the empahsis on storing canned wheat and other staple foods. Yes the church promotes self dependency as opposed to the feed me clothe me and by the way wheres my check.gov attitude. (This is by no means a dig at any other religion merely an observation as to the current welfare state that oklahoma has become)
