A guy at work just got through being thoroughly flummoxed upon discovering that not only are hollow points not illegal, but that you can buy them at Wal-Mart. His thought was that hollow points do a lot of damage to which I actually replied "That's the fucking point!"

You don't shoot someone to give them a skin rash...

If I didn't want to do "a lot of damage" I would throw a rock. But I'm not David and my attacker is not goliath, so I prefer my sling to involve a clip, and some hollow points.

I think a lot of that comes from the Geneva convention's prohibition of hollow points. Folks hear that, and think no further.

I believe the Hague treaty of 1898 or whenever was the one that banned hollowpoints for militaries. However, it is arguable that the treaty is now defunct, but we still don't use HP for tactical reasons.

Correct, the Hague Convention outlawed the use of expanding ammunition in warfare. People ignorantly think these conventions apply to everyone as some form of law.

HPs are not used for the tactical reason it is better to wound with two small holes than it is to kill with one small hole. As we know, a wounded man consumes more resources and since all war is logistics, the more resources you can get the enemy to consume not fighting back, the easier it is to defeat them.

Was explaining them to a new shooter the other day....one thing to point out is that JHPs aren't nessisarily less deadly (I've heard some say MORE deadly because they make an entrance wound, and a nice blood-drainage hole in the exit) but their stopping power sucks.
