Remember, Heller was a call to battle, not a victory song.

This kind of thinking illustrates what we're going to be up against.

Because the case before the court arose from the District of Columbia and thus involved only federal law, the court did not resolve the important question of whether the Second Amendment's protections apply to limit state and local laws.

Benna Ruth Solomon, a lawyer for the city of Chicago, said there is, for now at least, no doubt about the proper answer to that question.

"As we sit here today," Solomon said, "this decision does not apply to the city of Chicago. It does not apply to the states or municipalities.

So, they feel they can ignore the ruling because it only applies to DC and not Chicago.

They're on thin ice, they know it, yet they're going to continue to skate around in circles until their hands are forced. If gun owners take a break, Heller will be for naught.
