While I loathe the recent gun bill for many reasons, one of the biggest is that it gives bigots like this something to latch their talking points to
It will be really nice to know that some crazy employee will be able to run to his car if you tick him off, get his gun, and come back loaded for bear.
This is basically the only grain of truth the anti-rights bigots have in their arsenal and yet they still manage to not get their point across worth a damn. Instead of understanding that yes, at some point, some idiot will abuse something, they make it appear that the mere presence of a gun in a car will cause the humanitarian of the year to grab his .38 special and shoot up the neonatal ICU because he didn't get a good raise.
Heat of the moment type scenarios are definitely not a bright spot in gun ownership. There is no doubt in my mind that a person can commit horrific acts of violence in situations where they've lost their temper. The presence of a firearm doesn't cause the temper tantrum, mind you, and that's where the antis fall flat on their face.
Now, I don't believe crimes of passion can be solved by limiting access to firearms. There is no logical way of knowing if someone is going to blow their lid without an intrusive state involvement at every level of your life. I never get liberals who think that the Patriot Act is bad but gun registry is good (they both pry into private lives). The three day waiting period is useless overall. Any gun store worth their salt won't sell to an agitated person, and if you can fake calmness, you'll end up either calming yourself down or you're so enraged that 3 days isn't going to do anything 'cept piss you off even more.
This new law sucks to high heaven, but just like the antis screamed about shootouts ala the OK Corral and blood in the streets over parking spaces, things like this won't materialize. Oh, someone will lose it and end up killing the sitting ducks in an office some day, but the passage or repeal of this law will have nothing to do with it.
