Seriously. With all the BS the ATF puts firearms dealers through over discrepancies such as Y for Yes, I should have written some software to take care of it for them.

Apparently, it's been done.

Shit. Seriously, shit. I love writing software. I enjoy firearms. Like chocolate & peanut butter, I could have had two great tastes that tasted good together. And I could have made a difference somewhere rather than me just spouting off here.

Add in the fact I'm just in a foul mood to begin with, and this revelation just pisses me off even more.

Just because it's been done doesn't mean you can't do it again better. Seriously, how many text editors are there? Neither of the packages Ryan linked to run on Linux. That could be a huge selling point -- it's a substantially cheaper solution because the OS is free. You could sell a whole package, including hardware, your software, and a support package. You can offer better software, with better performance on cheaper hardware, at a lower price. Both of those packages looked pretty amateurish. I'm sure you can do a much better job for a better price.
