Making the new old again

Photography

Just putzing around with aging photographs in Photoshop. I took a photograph from my nephews wedding (I was the photographer - remind me to never do that again) and aged it quite a few years. Let me know what you think (you can click on the images for bigger views)

A friend of mine started doing weddings to make some extra money. The first one he did, he showed me pictures of while complaining how difficult the bride was. I recognized her from one of my Univ. classes. She was a pain in the but there as well. The only other wedding he did before he said 'enough' was mine.

Good pictures. Why will you not do it again? Too stressful?

Somewhat OT question again if I may: Where do serious photographers go to get digital prints?

I got a batch from Costco, which is convenient, cheap, and at first glance very well done, but turns out they "auto-corrected" the color and cropping even though I explicitly opted out of those. Now I have to get them reprinted before I can send out childpics in the Christmas/New Year's cards. Grrr!

Anwyn, I do weddings as a side business. I just never want to do family again. It's too stressful since everyone knows you.

As far as good pictures, well I know my studio sometimes goes to Costco. We also have a printer who only takes professionals and no one else when we need more specific prints. But what you do is learn who works where and see if you can request that they not auto-correct anything and, if they have it, download their printer profiles.

Lots of Photoshop. I made a "color wash" layer out of a scan of a sandy texture I found on the web. I enlarged it to fit over the photograph, blurred the ever lovin' hell out of it, then set the layer to Color Dodge mode. This gives the faded, washed out look

I then used a grunge brush to paint the scratches.

Finally, I "burned" the edges slightly by painting a frame with a mottled brush and setting it to color burn.

Hey, Robb! Which Photoshop do you use? I just got CS2, which is really great, and because I can't afford CS3. LOL That's a really great treatment! I likes! A little more sepia and a little less pink, maybe? I love the scratch effect too!

CS2. They're already talking about CS4, so I'm not in any hurry to get CS3. The "realtime effects layers" are a good idea, but I'm not that hungry to upgrade yet.

Going from 7 to CS2 was a blast.
