2008

It's going to be a shitty year.

The Mrs. has decreed that I shan't be buying any firearms this year since I bought 3 last year. It's going to be hard to figure out how to get around that one.

I think the exact words were "no firearms" not "no buying yourself any firearms".

She's a no-shooty. She's no longer a hoplophobe, but she doesn't enjoy the noise and recoil.

Do you have the critical number (more than 5)? I walked into the house a few weeks back with a brand new Beretta that looked a lot like another pistol and conspicuously left it sitting on a table. She never noticed the difference - it's just another one of "all those guns".

Unless I can scrape up hundreds of dollars in change from the couch, she's the Chief Financial Officer of the SaaM Compound and I don't think that would escape notice.

The last thing I'd ever hear was her standing over my bloody body going "How the $&#*( do you reload this thing?"

did she say no 'new firearms' or no firearms, if it is the first, you could jump throught the old loop hole, of its a used and therefore not 'new' firearm.

Hey, at least you got away with the three. I purchased a grand total of one last year, and will be remarkably lucky if I can manage to snag another this year.

We have our married people money, but we also have our own accounts where small amounts of cash gets dumped into twice a month (plus if either of us do any work on the side or get gifts, ect) thats our money, and what we do with it the other has no say.

So long as I can afford it, I can grab it.

Though the wife did express hopes that my gun collection would only be "a few" back in her hoplophobe days. Now her collection is one (but one good one) and I've passed "A few" a LOOOOONG time ago.

Depends on how technical she wants to get. I was operating under such a decree for 2007. Still managed to bring home two new guns. However, she hasn't objected to receivers since those aren't "guns" in her eyes. Nor are parts kits. The fact that I can assemble the two later into a gun is a minor technical detail.

Then again, I did dispose of one gun so I got a freebie for that.

I could get new guns into the house. It would soon be obvious though since I would rapidly run out of room in the safe. I'm 2-3 slots away from being full. And one of those slots is already reserved.

Don't know what to tell you. Honestly, in a couple of months, that decree will quietly fade.

You know, a shop up here has a great layaway policy. If you could find someone down there that does the same thing there's always the old, "Oh, I put $50 on this thing awhile back, just want to finish paying so I don't have to buy any more," thing.

The idea of building a firearm might work. You can do it cheap, and a little bit at a time.

Or if we have that "gun buyback" we were talking about, you could just buy up a number of guns, then sell the ones you don't want to cover the cost of the ones you do.

First thought, was to focus on the "buying", does that mean bartering or trading is acceptable? Might not be a wise idea to trade her car, but there must be other things around the house you can do without, right?

Also, does firearms include archery? Might be a good time to get into cross bows or compound bows.

It had been my experience that 2 guns locked together in a nice dark, quiet gun safe will naturally create more guns, it's the way of nature.

Getting the gun safe is an important part.

You're welcome. :) And thanks, too! I still need to find a non-sinister stock for it and scavenge a scope off of something else, but I've got the components all set. I'm thinking it'll make a darn nice deer rifle for next season.

The way I view it "One Gun a Month" is a minimum number... ;-) A year without any new guns is rather stiff, but I don't know what to say. Having been married once, I know what it's like. Glad I'm not now though...

The funny thing is that there's nothing really I need or want to buy at the moment. Sure, I'd love a nice 1911 and even a mouse gun for days when I can't conceal the Glock that well, but really I'm ok on shooty things right now.

I mean, of course I'd buy anything I could get my hands on if it was feasible, but from now on everything else is a "yacht". Don't need it and it'd be more to just "have" than anything else.
