One day, we will all be replaced by computers

So, I get back to work today and find that the past year and a half of my life at work is now purchasable through a third-party piece of software.

Which is fine with me. This is something I preach to everyone. No matter how good you are, you are replaceable. But at least I've learned a tremendous amount and can apply that knowledge to other projects and with the hard stuff out of the way (if this product works as advertised) it will allow us to really polish our application to add some "wow" factor.

I, for one, welcome our new computer overlords ;)

I understand that feeling though... half of the applications I've ever written as a part of a small team have been replaced by large-company-built apps.

Of course, in government work, a lot of times your long-term projects get shelved entirely, and you end up feeling like you have wasted an entire year of your life. Private companies tend to be better about it because the money spent developing these apps isn't "free" (i.e. paid for by taxpayers.) I'm not sure what is worse though, having a project shelved, or being asked to work on the obfuscated, undocumented, classic ASP code some college intern wrote three years ago, when the government decides to "un-shelf" it.
