The St. Petersburg homeowner said he heard a noise like someone trying to pry open the door from garage into the house. He told police he was scared because there had been a lot of home invasions.
He went to his bedroom and got a semiautomatic handgun from a closet, walked to the door and fired at least nine rounds into the door.
Someone screamed, and then the homeowner heard a car peel out, authorities said. He opened the door and found a trail of blood and a gun on the ground.

If it were me, the report would probably read

He went to his bedroom and got a semiautomatic handgun, walked to the door and decided that the handgun wasn't what he wanted and went back to get a revolver. He figured that while the .357 Magnum would work, the old adage of "never bring a handgun when you have a rifle" was apropos and grabbed a vintage, 1946 Russian chambered in 7x62x54R figuring the bayonet could come in handy. He fired once into the door. Neighbors 3 blocks over were awoken by the concussion.

Sounds like a clean shooting, still putting rounds through a door at an unseen attacker is a prime violation of Rule #4

Still I'm suspecting the home invasion rate will plumet in this area now.
