Mr. Reasoned Discourse posts a tid-bit from the top bint herself
The fact is that this debate isn’t about guns at all. It’s about how we as a society relate to guns. It’s about how we buy them, sell them, store them, and use them.
This makes no sense at all. It has nothing to do with guns, but then goes on to list 5 different things regarding guns? If it has nothing to do with guns, why continue to label it as gun violence, gun laws, or gun {whatever}?
When we talk about gun control, what we’re really talking about are ways to encourage people to behave differently around guns.
A pure lie. The NRA's Eddie Eagle program teaches kids to not handle firearms yet the Brady Bunch doesn't seem to think it's a good idea. Why not? It doesn't teach kids to shoot guns, only to avoid them if they ever find one and tell a parent.
And I don't know about you, but constantly looking for ways to make my legitimate usage of firearms harder and harder , e.g. more restrictive gun laws, doesn't strike me as encouragement.
A gun may be just a tool, but it’s a tool whose misuse can have profound and permanent consequences.
Which also describes just about any tool in the world. Stoves are great for cooking and all, but lay your face on the red burner and it can have profound and permanent consequences. Hell, chicken shears cut through bone like butter regardless if the bone belongs to a chicken or your left most phalange.
Oddly, we teach our kids not to play with acetylene torches, saw blades, and pneumatic nailers, but not guns.
Now, Paulie boy takes up where the Weeper leaves off.
Sometimes this debate becomes so entangled in legal arguments and hypothetical situations that the larger picture is lost. Sarah’s point is that gun violence can be addressed by encouraging people to realize that public policies and leadership can help prevent gun violence without preventing legitimate gun ownership. Laws can help keep guns from falling into hands of dangerous people, and can punish those who use guns illegally.
Let me type this slowly so you can understand it Paul - We already have plenty of laws that make using a gun illegally illegal!!! You cannot legislate crime away any more than you can legislate away gravity.
You lower crime by ensuring that everyone is given the same opportunities to make the best life for themselves that they can and punish the ones who turn to a life of crime. You keep the criminals off the street and you'll see crime drop tremendously.
Instead, groups like the VPC and the Brady Bunch think that by making it harder for law abiding citizens to have access to firearms that somehow criminals will voluntarily give up their guns and that eventually everyone will shit puppies and rainbows..
32 people are murdered with guns every day in America. 30,000 a year die from gun violence. It’s an enormous problem, it’s a societal problem, but it’s not an impossible problem.
32 * 365 = 11,680. 18,320 people are lucky enough each year to not be murdered yet still die from gun violence. Leaving the subject of poor math skills, Paulie, how many people die from violence regardless of the tool used? I'm willing to bet it's a big number. That's what you should focus on, the violence, not the tool.
