I hope so. I write a lot of my own software so I hope it doesn't break aything. Then again most of my software doesn't usually involve heavy networking.

You use Firefox. Why would you need SP2, then? I thought all it did was close a few security holes in IE...?

No, it does a few firewall thingies too (which is already causing problems).

Can't seem to get to my network drives, which, oddly are local to this box.

All the pc's on the network get a mapped drive for Music and Photographs (M: and P: respectively). I use DFS because there's 20 gigs of music and 30 gigs of pictures so I tend to move them around a bit depending on what system has the most space.

Using a mapped drive at login plus DFS allows me to move stuff around without worrying about remapping drives each time.

I've installed XP:SP2 on all my XP installs. (Except for one, because its only a 700 MHrtz, and SP2 is more of a resource hog than SP1 was.)

I've got a lot of griefs with it, but the most annoying is all the security warnings when I turn off the embedded virus protection and firewall.

"WHAT? ARE YOU INSANE? YOUR COMPUTER WILL NOT BE SECURE IF YOU TURN THIS OFF."
"So I'm going to warn you every 15 minutes until you turn it back on."

*Sigh*
(Well, good thing I know the way around the Windows Registry)

Hmm, I turned mine off and nothing's popped up yet.

It did turn out to be a two fold problem. One had to deal with adding a new DWORD registry key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Mup\Parameters
called EnableDfsLoopbackTargets and setting the value to 1. WTF this does, I have no idea, but it works now on the local machine.

The other issue has to do with DNS which is my boo boo and I'm too lazy to care because my wife's PC is working fine and the only box I listen to toons on is working fine so why bother?
