AAAAAUGH! The dreaded Windows Update icon just popped up at home telling me it's ready to install Win XP Service Hack II - The Sequel. No way dude. I've just started getting most of the holes plugged up, the last thing I need is Gates and Co. trying to help and end up opening more.

Don't get me wrong, I like XP. As a programmer myself I realize that there are trade offs if you want "time to market". Linux is great and all, but recompiling my own OS because my video driver needs updating is a silly thing to expect from the standard user who has enough trouble determining which button on the mouse is used for 'Left Click'.

So, there it is. A cancerous lump sitting in my system tray just asking permission to metastasize. I could tell it to go away, but it would show back up in a few weeks like a bad girlfriend. You know the one I'm talking about. She shows up at 3 am drunk and reeking of Denny's coffee saying she's sorry for treating you the way she did and could you find it in your heart to forgive her for keying your car and puking on your welcome mat? So you sleep with her in hopes that she'll just go away just to find out that she had the clap.

Umm.... That's never happened to me, by the way. Seriously.

Maybe I could put a piece of masking tape over the corner of the monitor and pretend it's not really there.

I'm dreading going home now. My Internet Explorer will probably be waiting up for me trying to get me to dump that Firefox bitch. IE can be like that....
