Right now, as you are reading this, I am thinking if posting this was a wise move, but since the Blogosphere has declared itself a major player in the media thanks to Rathergate, it's opened itself up to the following.
Great job guys, but don't pat yourselves on the backs too hard. Yes, you are the David that toppled Goliath, but will you now "lead your people" or "pack up your sling and go home".
Face it, you got an easy one here. Simple forgeries that were through some act of sheer stupidity placed where everyone can see them. You caught them and exposed it for a fraud and you should be commended, but what is next?
Is the plan to now pick apart every story on the nightly news and validate it for accuracy or are you planning on only go after the stories that have political impact? Was the item on increasing costs of nursing home abuse suits honest or not? How about the segment regarding tax initiatives for blind dentists? Were any of the documents shown there forged?
The blogosphere is just about the only place I get my news. My site isn't about news, just personal opinions, snarkiness, my cat, or just funny crap I pull out of my ass, but many of the other sites are geared towards providing analysis of current events and the comments allow for thorough fleecing of any mistakes. That is what makes the system so good. However, it takes more than one major story to keep the Citizen's Band Media in the spotlight.
So, congratulations for scoring a three-pointer and drawing the foul, but the game ain't over! Get back to work.
Powerline has a little more subtle approach to what I'm saying here.
