Why is it that Dan Rather gets bogus information that he should have been pretty sure was forged yet goes ahead with the story, the MSM and left feel he should get the benefit of the doubt but when George Bush got intelligence from around the world that all agreed Saddam had WMD's, somehow he's a liar?

Rather = Mistaken
Bush = Liar

"liar" sort of implies knowingly saying something that's not true. It's really funny how that word is wrongly tossed out so much. I really don't think anyone saying Bush lied truely thinks he knew WMDs would not be found.

"mislead" is defined as "cause to be given the false impression".

So when Gore is foaming at the mouth yelling "Bush has mislead the nation!!!" that is technically correct. People employed by Bush gave the impression there were nasty weapons there.

However, its been my experience that most people interpret "mislead" to be deliberately lied. So you have sort of fun word game for the bush-haters.

That said, I don't believe that all true things are necessarily relevant.

Surely this is a rhetorical question? I think it is quite obvious why one is demonized but the other is being given a pass. Best question is, Why is Rather and CBS holding on so tight? Why not just admit a mistake? My theory is that someone very important to CBS is directly involved and therefore they can't open up and admit error without exposing those involved...

Aaron, yes it is rhetorical, but it still confuses me. I'm sick of the Kerry Medal-gate. I think the man served honorably during his time in 'Nam. I think what he did afterwards was dishonorable, but I am willing to ignore his service time in lieu of his more recent actions and how they pertain to his ability to perform the duty of POTUS.

Since I feel Kerry's weakness is his senate record, the SBVFT can go to hell for all I care. It doesn't interest me. But the Swifites aren't forging documents to smear Kerry and it bothers me that anyone would be so blind to think that's a legitimate form of discourse.

At least every other news media is reevaluating the documents for possible forgeries. I just heard as well that most people:

(a) Think they are fakes

and

(b) Even if they were genuine, don't feel they are relevant at all

It's a lose/lose situation for CBS...

CBS is not going to admit anything that puts their guys in jail. If CBS has been stalled on this story for years, waiting for this last piece of evidence, it seems likely they were in on it.
They spent so much time on this story over the years - they all know each other by now.
